[MLUG] Install fest, need help, thanks!

I'm going to play devils advocate here.

1. Upgrading. Last time I checked, Linux users don't control when a new
version of the kernel or their favourite distribution comes out.
1.1 Same could be said of Linux, but the more frequent update schedule
makes it less apparent. (Ex. Want to use the new Intel i7 platform, you
may have to upgrade.)
3. With Linux you need to install these things too. The difference is
you don't need to get out on the 'net and fetch them, most distributions
automatically install them. Even then, not everything you list is
installed by default. You may want to pull compilers and math software
out of the list, these are fairly specialized apps that most users don't
and won't use. Heck, some people won't even know what they are.

You may want to careful about pushing your ideals on your readers. Your
ideal file manager and mine are probably not the same. Not everyone
thinks Firefox is the ultimate browser. Oh, and IE7 does have tabbed
browsing. Also, unless your distro (or its installer) configures it,
iptables is wide open by default. I believe that even by default, XPs
firwall is on and configured to block incoming connections by default.

I'm not looking to start a war, just being a pain in the ---.
