I was reminded of your post when I read:

It's hard enough to explain to some people there is something beside
Microsoft running on computers. The best way my parents understood it
was that it wasn't 100% free: You always get something in return, even
if it is only reputation. (we help each other out... like good neighbors
do...)

Education is a slow and painstaking process...
