[MLUG] Cloud Computing

Well, I don't know if a PC tech can do stuff like maintain/admin linux servers (no one will convince me that cloud architecture should be Microsoft based).

But then again, what is the difference between a good self-learner PC tech and a certified sys admin ???

I'm a tech (actually a digital system technology tech) and as long as it's not Cisco stuff I can do pretty much anything being sys admin to programming...

To me 'the cloud' is a gimic, as someone wrote, just something to get companies to spend more for something they just don't really need...

Get a good Linux server (my preference is ClearOS for this type of application) and you can do everything 'the cloud' can do with no monthly fees...

ANd with the poor bandwidth (especially upload) and traffic caps, why is that such a good idea? You can do the same with your data safely stored on your server (provided you have redundancy and good backup strategy) and use a VPN to access your data from anywhere...
